Originally assembled for GE Medical Systems and used in an MRI
machine which was salvaged.
Tested and working!! Use parts individually or use your
imagination for this device; perhaps something in robotics.
Large Rubber Roller appears to
have an internal planetary gear train which freewheels (remains
stationary) when the motor is operating until solenoid engages
the moving large brass gear and then the large rubber roller turns.
It will operate in both directions.
Gates Power Grip Drive Belt transfers power to the motor to the
large rubber roller.
The smaller rubber roller just freewheels.
Housed in a sturdy aluminum surrounding frame.
Originally used in an MRI machine to move and position
the table on which the person is lying.
This can be
adapted to use as a small conveyor belt drive unit
or a drive unit in a robotics application or the motor could be
removed to be used in a separate application.
The drive motor is an

The 2100 series motor is a high performance, permanent magnet
brush servo motor for use in various industrial direct drive or
geared servo systems. This motor provides effective and highly
efficient motion control solutions for a wide range of
applications including factory automation, packaging, robotics,
machine tools, medical instrumentation and more.
Also attached is an
Inertia Dynamics, Inc. Flange Mounted Brake #FB17-28-073 28 VDC
shown in bottom photo which can instantly stop the motor
movement.
When the solenoid is activated, the large brass gear is held in
place. Then the whole assembly will slowly roll along, (if sitting
on a table) driven by the motor, through the power grip drive
belt.
(There is apparently some gear reduction action inside the large
rubber roller.)
I've tested this with 12V and it is working in excellent
condition!
At that voltage, it will roll at maybe 1 foot or less per second.
Motor operates from 2-28 volts
(I've got another one of these if you would like to have two of
them.)
